The Summer school

The Summer School

On July 1, 2024, within the framework of the Erasmus+ UniCities international project, the summer school “Shaping urban environments for tomorrow” was opened, focused on complex tasks that combine architecture, urbanism, sociology, ecology and are aimed at developing strategies for solving global problems in various contexts in the cities of Eastern and Western Europe.

The summer school is attended by students of higher education in various specialties and teachers of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, as well as partner universities of the project. Applicants will work in a mixed format – online and offline (two locations – on the basis of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, in the established university-city cooperation center “UNICITIES”, and on the basis of National Technical University of Ukraine “Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”).

During the summer school, participants will learn to connect the principles of an integrated approach to the development of strategies based on key findings from interdisciplinary and multi-scale empirical research.

The summer school will provide participants with an amazing opportunity to gain international experience in solving complex tasks for the sustainable development and climate neutrality of cities. Thanks to it, an important step will be taken for the modern development of Ukrainian cities.

For five days, students and teachers will take part in various lectures, seminars, trainings, discussions, and work in groups on projects.

On the first day, the participants of the summer school got to know each other. The team of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University was presented by the project manager from our university KAZYMYR Volodymyr Viktorovych. Participants also listened to a lecture by project coordinator Olga KORDAS (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm) on the topic “New European Bauhaus and other EU strategic documents in the context of adaptation to climate change: key principles, values. Impact and applied significance for recovery policy in Ukraine”, as well as a lecture by Oleksiy PASICHNYI (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm) “Technical solutions to ensure climate neutrality in cities. Experience of Sweden”. The participants were divided into groups and chose a project topic related to the reconstruction of the Chernihiv Polytechnic University campus

In addition, a meeting was held with representatives of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University:
