Coordination meeting of the UniCities project in Stockholm

From August 12 to 16, 2024, representatives of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of Economics, Accounting and Taxation Zhanna DERIY and Ph.D., Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information and Measurement Technologies Anatoly PRYSTUPA participated in the coordination meeting of the consortium of the UniCities project – “Unveiling the transformative potential of Ukrainian universities for the development of climate-neutral and sustainable cities”, which was held at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm.

The participants presented the results of the project and the progress in achieving the outlined tasks. Interesting and meaningful presentations of the ZVO-partners regarding the launch and operation of the Cooperation Centers between universities and cities caused a lively discussion about the opportunities and challenges for Ukrainian cities in the direction of climate neutrality. It is the cooperation of scientists with representatives of local self-government bodies, the public sector, and business that allows us to perform work more efficiently and qualitatively, which was confirmed by the presentation of our university’s achievements in this direction.

One of the sessions was devoted to the introduction of an interdisciplinary educational course focused on solving the problems of sustainable development to promote in-depth learning and empowerment of various groups of stakeholders. In particular, the Smart Cities and climate adaptation and mitigation strategies course is being introduced in a number of educational programs of the university.

The evaluation of the results of the summer school “Shaping the city planning of tomorrow” was carried out, in which students of higher education of various courses and educational programs were involved and actively worked, and the format of the school in 2025 was determined.

Further plans for the implementation of the project tasks and the preparation of the Periodic Report for the European Commission were also outlined.

The work of the UniCities project consortium proved a clear strategy for the further development of the project and the achievement of the set goals.
