Guest Lecture by Professor Jose Castillo

Guest Lecture by Professor Jose Castillo
On December 9 2025, the Department of Welding Technologies and Construction of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University hosted an online guest lecture by Professor Jose Castillo of the University of São Paulo (Brazil) entitled “Welding Metallurgy: Why It Matters”.
Professor Castillo has forty years of experience in the field of welding production, including programming of robotic welding equipment such as KUKA, YASKAWA, and ABB Robotics. He is also a specialist in non-destructive testing and technical diagnostics of welded joints.
During the lecture, participants received comprehensive information on the impact of thermocyclic heat loads during welding on structural and phase transformations in structural steels, as well as in active metals and their alloys. The lecture also highlighted the main causes of cracking in welded joints and modern methods for monitoring their development.
The lecture was attended by students and academic staff from the following fields (educational programs): Welding Technologies and Equipment, Industrial and Civil Construction, Automotive Transport, Industrial Engineering, Ecology, as well as Geodesy and Land Management.
The event became an important element in the development of international cooperation and in enhancing the quality of specialist training in mechanical engineering, particularly in applied mechanics and related disciplines at Chernihiv Polytechnic National University.
We sincerely thank Professor Jose Castillo and everyone who joined the event.
Looking forward to new meetings next semester!
