The first School of tutors within the ERASMUS+ KA2 PROMENT project
In the period from June 17 to 19, the first School of tutors was held at Chernihiv Polytechnic National University within the framework of the ERASMUS+ KA2 PROMENT international project “Promotion of professional education and active participation of students through the establishment of a comprehensive system of mentoring and tutoring in higher education institutions”. The participants of the training program were students of higher education of the 2nd year and older, who expressed a desire to become tutors for the future freshmen of the 2024 recruitment year. The student self-government bodies of the university and the management of the Tutoring and Mentoring Center actively participated in the formation of the pool of potential tutors.
The purpose of the School of tutors is to provide students with higher education with the special knowledge and necessary competencies to participate in the innovative tutoring program for first-year students (tute), which will be piloted at the university from September 1. Oleg NOVOMLYNETS, rector of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, gave a welcome speech to the participants of the School of Tutors, who especially emphasized the role of active students in creating a friendly educational environment and helping first-year students to adapt to university life. The participants familiarized themselves with the terminology and basic principles of tutoring, the ethics of the tutor’s relationship with first-year students, curators and teachers, and the features of first-year students’ adaptation to the university environment. The second day was devoted to the organization of group and individual tutoring, analysis of the main algorithms of the tutor’s work. Team work during the training “Formation of the necessary skills of the tutor” allowed not only to identify the necessary skills for the successful interaction of the tutor and the tute, but also to jointly develop a road map for their development. And finally, the third day of the School of tutors allowed future tutors to master the basics of planning tutoring sessions, tracking work results and identifying areas for tutor development, as well as tutor reporting on work results.
Training according to the innovative program for the participants of the School of tutors was conducted by: Lyudmila REMNYOVA, head. Department of Personnel Management and Labor Economics – project coordinator; Alla NITCHENKO, assistant professor of the department of law enforcement and general legal disciplines, coordinator of the scheme “Tutoring for first-year students” and Alla KHOLODNYTSKA, assistant professor of the department of personnel management and business technologies, head of the Tutoring and Mentoring Center. Thanks to all participants for their activity and interesting networking, expressed interest in tutoring, desire to develop and participate in the tutoring program.
