Exchange of Experience within the International Week at the Universidad de Valladolid

Exchange of Experience within the International Week at the Universidad de Valladolid

Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Philology at Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, PhD in Philology Lesia Pikun has completed an intensive week of academic mobility at the Universidad de Valladolid within the framework of the International Week, held at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (Facultad de Filosofía y Letras) and the Department of Filología Clásica from April 13 to 17, 2026. The visit took place within the framework of the Erasmus+ KA171 project.  This mobility period became a time of intensive exchange of experience, establishment of new professional contacts, and outlining prospects for further cooperation. It was carried out in close collaboration with the academic coordinator Marta Gutiérrez Rodríguez and with the professional support of Laura Álvarez Trigo.

During the panel discussion, Chernihiv Polytechnic National University and the Department of Foreign Philology were presented. Special attention was paid to the new educational programme “English Language and Translation.” Its launch generated lively interest among colleagues from Spain, Armenia, Montenegro, Georgia, and Côte d’Ivoire, as it demonstrates the university’s ability to promptly and effectively respond to current regional and societal needs. It is noteworthy that in many of the represented countries, only specialized institutions operate, which made the exchange of perspectives on the development of philological education particularly valuable.

An especially valuable component of the mobility was the opportunity to attend lectures and practical classes delivered by Spanish colleagues. In particular, during literature classes taught by Professor Berta Cano Echevarría, the effective combination of theory and practice, as well as the systematic reinforcement of previously studied material, was highly impressive. Even complex phenomena of modernist and intellectual poetry were explained in a clear and logical manner, ensuring deep student understanding.

During classes on the translation of poetic texts conducted by Professor José Manuel Eduardo Barrio Marco, special attention was given to a step-by-step analytical methodology: from studying the author’s biography and historical context to a detailed interpretation of imagery and stylistic nuances. Group work encouraged students’ creative exploration, while observing their insights and interpretations provided valuable professional experience. Under the guidance of Professor Barrio Marco, an in-depth analysis of translating English literary texts was also carried out, the results of which are planned to be integrated into the teaching process at Chernihiv Polytechnic.

An important component of the programme was a seminar dedicated to the use of Generative AI in developing educational applications and games. The application of such innovative teaching approaches contributes to making modern education more dynamic and effective.

In addition to the academic activities, the week also included cultural immersion in the history of Spain — from walking tours around Valladolid to a visit to the historic library of Palacio de Santa Cruz.
